Let me begin by thanking you for visiting our website!
The patient shown here & in our Smile Gallery had these crowns placed quite a few years ago. The "black" edges near the gum line are not cavities; rather, it is the metal core of the crown itself. These older style crowns (metal inside with white/porcelain exterior) looked good in their day...until the gums pulled back and the black edges could be seen. This patient has a big, beautiful smiile. Over the years, her gums pulled back further and further exposing the black edges. She simply grew tired of "half smiling" and wanted a natural smile...one where no edges could be seen. The all-porcelain crowns we placed have no metal and, therefore, no black edges...ever.
Please visit our Smile Gallery (Smile Makeover section) to see her completed case.
